📖 LEDGER ENTRY: On Wings of Blood

Blight-Born and bound. A princess who died once already, and a prince who isn't done breaking her yet.

Story Breakdown

Medra Pendragon, a fae princess from Camelot, sacrifices her life to kill a corrupt god and wakes up in a new world where she's immediately marked as a Blight-Born and bound to vampire prince Blake Drakharrow as his Second Betrothed. Enrolled at Bloodwing Academy, she has to navigate a brutal vampire hierarchy, constant sabotage, and a mysterious mental bond with her deceased mother, all while holding her own through sheer stubbornness and fae power. As the term progresses, she and Blake develop a complicated pull toward each other even as she witnesses the cruelty of High Blood society and fights to survive deadly academic trials. The book closes darkly when Blake bites Medra without her consent to force the completion of their bond, and the black dragon Nyxaris awakens in response to her presence before vanishing into the sky.

Faces of the Realm

Medra Pendragon — FMC. Princess of Camelot and a royal half fae, originally from a castle that floated in the sky. Becomes Second Betrothed consort to Blake. Powerful, with red hair and pointed ears.

Prince Blake Drakharrow — MC. Prince of House Drakharrow, a third year student at Bloodwing Academy. Arrogant on the surface but clearly conflicted underneath.

Lord Drakharrow — Blake's uncle, and leader of House Drakharrow after Blake's father died. A very cruel leader who will do anything to keep his House at number one.

Regan Pansera — Betrothed consort to Blake from a young age.

Lady Avari — Leader of House Avari. Older, with silver hair.

Lord Mortis — Leader of House Mortis.

Florence Shen — Warden for the first year dorm who becomes friends with Medra. Very smart and shy, and idolizes highbloods the way many other blightborn do.

Theo Drakharrow — Blake's cousin and best friend. He's sleeping with men, which puts him at odds with his house. Seems more friendly toward Medra than most High Bloods.

Coregon Phiri — One of Blake's closest friends.

Visha Vaidya — Part of House Drakharrow. Tough spirited and a fighter.

Marcus Drakharrow — Blake's older brother, already graduated from Bloodwing. Very mean.

Kage Tanaka — Leader of House Avari.

Catherine — Leader of House Mortis.

Lysander — Leader of House Orphos.

Lunaya — Lysander's sister. Sweet and kind.

Naveen Sharma — A dwarven blightborn.

Sebastian Sankara — Combat professor.

Headmaster Kim — Headmaster of Bloodwing Academy.

Orcades Le Fay — Medra's mother, a fierce fae warrior who died giving birth to her.

Arthur Pendragon — Medra's father.

Professor Magda Stonefist — Basic combat instructor, a dwarven woman who scouted during the last civil war between the great houses. Nicknamed Grimblade.

The Peacebringer — Blake's father. After the last war ended and the last dragon fell, the kingdom was shattered into four territories, each claimed by its own house. He reunited the four houses and reestablished the regency.

Professor Elowyn Wispwood — A halfborn, born to a mortal and a vampire, which is very rare.

Aenia — Marcus slaughtered her family and left her to die. Blake found her and turned her.

Lucian & Evander — Visha's consorts.

Nyxaris — The black dragon, awakened seemingly because of Medra. He acknowledged her but refused to bond, and flew off.

Location Log

Bloodwing Academy — Where High Blood society trains its next generation, structured around vampire superiority and brutal trial-based advancement.

Veilmar — Capital city of Sangratha.

Sangratha — The name of this world that vampires inhabit.

Black Keep — Castle in Veilmar made of onyx stone. House Drakharrow's stronghold.

The Bloodmaiden's Sanctum — The most sacred temple in Sangratha, granted access to only a few women. This is where Blake's mother went after her husband died, and no one has seen her since. Perched like a white nest on a dark cliff, built from luminous white stones that gleam like pearl.

World Notes

High Bloods are vampires who view themselves as gods, with mortals revering and serving them, placing High Bloods at the top of the social hierarchy and non-vampires beneath them. Four highblood houses run Sangratha and lead the school: House Drakharrow, House Avari, House Orphos, and House Mortis. Each house has its own special abilities, but they all share the ability to sense emotion through blood, which is exactly why keeping a bloodline pure matters so much to them. When Orcades died, her soul was merely scattered, so when Medra was dying, Orcades was able to find her and insert her soul to prevent her death. The blood ritual Medra later uses to remove Orcades's soul from her brain into her dagger is also the thing that awakens the dragon. The previous civil war involved the four houses splitting into factions, two against two, with House Avari against House Drakharrow.

Terms to Know

Highbloods — Vampires.

Blightborn — Non vampires.

Thralls — A person who is enthralled by a vampire and lets them feed off them.

Thrallweave — A powerful coercion ability that only vampires should possess, though Medra is somehow able to learn it.

Foulbloods — Blightborn who have been turned. Most of the time they're hunted down and killed.

Dragon Riders — An extinct or dormant class that hasn't existed in over a hundred years. They apparently once kept the High Bloods in check. Medra has the build of one and seems to have a connection to dragons, evidenced by her recurring dreams and the awakening of Nyxaris.

Predictions 🔮

Medra and Blake will eventually realize their feelings for each other. Blake isn't such a bad guy, deep down. And Nyxaris will come back to help Medra. He has to, right?

Tales Untold ❓

Why does Lord Drakharrow want Medra so badly? He has to be connected to the dragons somehow.

Quotes

"Confidence was attractive. And arrogance? Well, it turned out sometimes that was even better."

"Just remember, you've done nothing to make her yours. She's a gift you've never appreciated. So maybe the problem isn't me, Drakharrow. Maybe it's you."

"She'd attacked me with murder in her heart. And yet, idiot that I was, it was her I couldn't take my eyes off."

"She was mine, and she always would be. My heart might have been black, my deeds as dark as night, but she was mine to protect, mine to keep safe."
